The history of coffee houses in Budapest, as the Hungarians call them, spans several centuries and boasts a rich cultural heritage. In the 19th century, these were not just cafes but the center of public life, meeting places for intellectuals, and there were times when the city had over 500 of them. One of the first coffee houses in Budapest was Café Gerbeaud, opened in 1858. Over time, other cozy establishments appeared in the city, such as Central, New York, and Corinthia. These places became not only venues for enjoying aromatic coffee but also centers of cultural life, hosting literary evenings, concerts, discussions, and other events.

Even now, many legendary establishments have retained their historical charm, shining in their former glory and attracting both tourists and locals alike. Here, you can enjoy exquisite coffee and desserts, as well as immerse yourself in the atmosphere of old European aristocracy. That's why we invite you to our author's tour, Coffee with a Hungarian Accent.

During the tour, we will tell you the history of coffee, which spans several periods. You will learn who brought coffee to Hungary and taught how to prepare it, how the splendid atmosphere and traditions of Austro-Hungarian coffee houses complement unique culinary masterpieces.
