Pest: from Andrássy Avenue to St. Stephen's Basilica
Our journey starts with a convenient pickup from your hotel. We begin in Pest, tracing the magnificent Andrássy Avenue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often hailed as Budapest's Champs-Élysées. You will admire the majestic mansions, built in an exquisite neoclassical style, which seem to transport you back to an era of aristocratic luxury.
The route will then take you to the majestic Heroes' Square, where you can take a closer look at the powerful sculptural ensemble commemorating Hungary's most important historical figures. This legendary square, which adorns the end of Andrássy Avenue, is considered one of Hungary's most iconic gems, embodying its rich history and cultural heritage.
Next, we explore the City Park, home to the legendary Széchenyi Thermal Baths - the largest medicinal thermal complex not only in Budapest but in all of Europe, which is impressive in its scale and offers a variety of wellness treatments, drawing its power from its own thermal spring.
In the park of Vajdahunyad Castle we are sure you will dive into the atmosphere of ancient times, encounter the mysterious Anonymus statue and his story. Next, we will show you Gundel Restaurant, which you can visit separately, known not only for its exquisite Hungarian cuisine but also for its luxurious interior, which immerses you in an atmosphere of refined comfort. Moving on, your attention will surely be drawn to St. Stephen's Basilica, the most majestic temple in Budapest, erected in honour of the first king of Hungary and striking in its grandeur and splendour.
Old Buda
Crossing the Danube, we step into the historical atmosphere of Old Buda. We will walk along its cobbled streets to reach the Fisherman's Bastion - the capital's landmark where you will be offered to see a breathtaking panorama of the Pest side of Budapest - the Parliament building, which looks like it came straight out of a postcard, and the beautiful bridges across the Danube, which, like hands reaching out to each other, connect the two parts of the city forever.
As we continue, we will pass the magnificent Matthias Church (Church of Our Lady) - a late Gothic architectural masterpiece, alongside centuries-old shops, pharmacies, and confectioneries, before arriving at the Royal Palace (Buda Castle).
Royal Palace (Buda Castle)
Around the Royal Palace there are many statues, monuments and fountains, each of which has its own unique history and symbolism:
-
Statue of Turul. This bronze bird, majestic and rebellious, was erected to mark the millennium of the arrival of the Hungarians in these lands. The Turul symbolizing the freedom, wisdom and immortal soul of the Hungarian people, serving as a powerful symbol of their nation.
-
Monument to Prince Eugene of Savoy. The famous military leader, who fought against the Ottoman horde, stands proudly in front of the castle entrance. The exploits of Eugene of Savoy are forever inscribed in the history of the country, and his memory lives on in the hearts of the Hungarian people.
-
King Matthias Fountain: Built into the castle walls, this romantic fountain depicts King Matthias on a hunt—the legendary spot where he met his future beloved. This fountain is not only a historical monument, but also a symbol of romance and great love.
The viewing platform in front of the palace offers a breathtaking panorama of Várkert Bazár, a restored park with elegant buildings, Gellért Hill and the Statue of Liberty. Here you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of Budapest, allowing you to truly feel its atmosphere and unique spirit.
The castle complex also houses the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest Museum, which you will have the option to explore independently at the tour's conclusion.
