The city of Eger is famous for its baroque architectural monuments, varieties of wine, which have no match in any wine-growing region, as well as healing thermal waters. The old town of Eger was built around the Eger Fortress – the main attraction of the city, built in the Middle Ages, but gained its main significance during the fight against Turkish invaders in the 16th century. And to this day it rises above the city, reminding with its presence of the great historical victory. Not far from Eger lies the resort Egerszalók. The waters of the thermal spring, flowing down the mountainside, created a natural salt hill. Surrounded by pine trees, it has become the leading object of the local landscape. There are only 2 such formations in the world – in the Turkish resort of Pamukkale and here, in Hungary!
