In the 16th century, when the Turkish invasion was in full swing, the invaders drew attention to the obstacle that had arisen - the fortress of Eger. 2000 Hungarian defenders resisted the Turkish army, which outnumbered them by 40 times, withstood a five-week siege. Among the many legends about this battle, there is one that says that a handful of Hungarian troops proved so strong against the huge Turkish army because the Hungarians drank Ox's blood wine. Many small wineries maintain their traditions of making wine to this day.
The healing power of local thermal water sources was used already in the Middle Ages. On their basis, Turkish baths were built in the 17th century. Today, the building houses a modern balneological center. Healing radon water with a temperature of +31̊С comes from under the stones covering the bottom of the pools. Radon reduces inflammation, increases the production of endorphins in the body, which improves the well-being of the body. Near the Turkish bath there are pools that feed the surrounding thermal springs. The beach and bathing complex has 7 pools with therapeutic, thermal water, a children's pool, indoor and outdoor pools with various effects - a jacuzzi, a "pearl" bed, underwater massage, a waterfall, a water fortress.
The “face” of the Eger wine region is, of course, the Bull Blood brand. Well, about the “Valley of Beauties”, where you can go from cellar to cellar to taste the wines of almost all winemakers in the region, everyone who has ever visited Hungary has probably heard about it.
The secret of Egerszalók's attractiveness is hidden in the beauty of the surrounding nature. In the southern part of the settlement there are cave "apartments", hollowed out in rhyolite tuff, typical for this area. Although they have recently ceased to be used as housing, these "apartments" are an example of human resourcefulness, caused by the need to create a roof over your head and adapt to environmental conditions. On the outskirts of the village there are beehive-like stones, which in all likelihood are the remains of rhyolite tuff, turned almost into flint under the influence of hot underground silicic waters that escaped to the surface of the earth as a result of volcanic processes.
Surrounded by pine trees, the salt hill has become the dominant feature of the local landscape. Thermal water with calcium and magnesium bicarbonate, which also contains a significant amount of sodium and metasilicic acid, received one of the best ratings in the category of sulfuric healing waters. In 1992, the Ministry of Health of Hungary assigned this water the status of curative. In the summer of 2007, a medical wellness bath was opened in Egerszalók. The building is located on a hillside, some of the pools are located overlooking a beautiful valley. The bathhouse occupies 10844 sq.m. and can accommodate up to 1000 people at the same time. Complex with a water area of 1900 sq.m. includes 17 outdoor and indoor pools - "sitting" pools with medicinal water, a cave pool, a pearl bath, pools with effects, pools for practicing according to the Kneipp method. Wellness and fitness services are available for guests.
Not far from Egerszalók and Eger, in the town of Demjén, there is another amazing bath. It is located under the vaults of the cave and is a network of underground rooms, where there is a real water park with slides, pools of different temperatures with water effects, saunas and relaxation areas. The design of the cave was inspired by the scenery of the film Avatar. Lighting, sculptures, and the whole atmosphere of the underground bath creates absolute comfort for perfect rest and relaxation.
